Dunn, Vandersee qualify for U.S. Amateur

Nate Dunn and Ian Vandersee claimed the two spots at the U.S. Amateur Qualifier at Blue Top Ridge
Ian Vandersee of West Des Moines followed up his opening round 4-under 68 with a 1-under 71 to claim medalist honors at the U.S. Amateur qualifier held Monday, August 1st at Blue Top Ridge in Riverside. Nate Dunn of Cedar Rapids claimed the second and final qualifying spot on the strength of a final round 3-under 69. Dunn shot an opening round of 73 for a 36-hole total of 2-under 142. That put him one stroke ahead of Dennis Bull of West Des Moines, who was designated as the 1st Alternate.
Robert Bell of Pierz, MN defeated Brad George of Marion in a playoff to claim 2nd Alternate status. Both players finished the 36-hole qualifier at even par 144.
Vandersee and Dunn wil join Mike McCoy at the national championship, held this year at Erin Hills in Erin, Wisconsin. McCoy made it to his 13th U.S. Amateur through qualifying in Dayton, Ohio.
