Johnson's win Father/Son
Duenow's capture Parent/Child

Bob Johnson with his two boys, Jay (L) and Neil
Phillips make Father/Son a family affair by Matt Levins, Burlington Hawkeye
Talk about a family affair. Bob Johnson and his son Neil narrowly edged out himself and his other son Jay in to capture the 2012 IGA Father/Son Championship over the weekend at Jester Park Golf Course in Granger. Bob and Neil shot an even par 71 while Bob and Jay, along with the team of Curtis and Cody Holck, were second after rounds of 72.
The tournmament is set up for teams to play either Saturday or Sunday with the overall champion being the lowest score from either day. Teams play an alternate shot format with one player teeing off from the odd numbered holes and the other from the even holes. Bob and Neil played Saturday and Bob and Jay played Sunday. Based on a card back since the two teams that tied for second played in different sessions, Bob and Jay were awarded the Runner-up plaques. Bob, Neil and Jay are all from Urbandale.
In the Parent/Child Championship, where the format of play is the same except that teams can be made up of any combination of parent and child excluding father/son, Beth and Keith Duenow of St Ansgar fired a 75 to win by two shots over Richard and Kaitlyn Mauk of Clive. Both teams played on Saturday afternoon.
James and Jack Henry of West Des Moines were the victors in the Young Adult Division (child age 11 or 12) after an 83. Meanwhile Jim and Sydney Webb of Johnston claimed that crown on the Parent/Child side.
The various divisions of the Junior portion of the tournament are played over 18 holes at the par-3 course at Jester. Tom and Jake Weissenburger of Clive were the champions of the Father/Son 8 and under after a terrific score of 59. Mike and Clayton Phillips of New London won the 9 & 10 division with their total of 60. On the Parent/Child side the Snyder family of Ames took home al lthe hardware. Lisa and Brock Snyder of Ames (74) were the champions of the 8 and under division and Chad and Britta Snyder were the winners in the 9 & 10 category.
