Ames Golf & CC selected to host 2010 IGA Four-Ball Championship
Ames Golf and Country Club will host its first IGA Championship since 2005 next year
Urbandale, IA – Ames Golf and Country Club has been selected to host the 2010 IGA Four-Ball Championship, May 21-22. Founded in 1911, Ames G&CC was originally a nine-hole golf course with a clubhouse and swimming pool, located south of Ames, Iowa. In 1971, the club hired architect Donald Seachrest of Tulsa, Oklahoma to design a new 18-hole course at the present location, north of Ames. Some minor changes have been made to Seachrest’s original design including adding some new teeing grounds to push the par-71 layout to 6,675 yards.
“The members and staff of Ames G&CC are very excited to host the IGA Four-Ball Championship,” said AGCC Head Pro Jay Giannetto. “AGCC is a great course for a four-ball, guys will make a lot of birdies and should have a lot of fun. We look forward to hosting.”
Ames G&CC has hosted a number of IGA events over the years, including the 2001 Iowa Mid-Amateur, 2003 Iowa Senior Amateur and 2005 Iowa Junior Amateur.
The 2009 IGA Four-Ball Championship was played at Whispering Creek GC in Sioux City and was won by J.D. Anderson of West Des Moines and Ron Peterson of Urbandale. The Senior Division of the Four-Ball was won by Scott Carnes of Cedar Rapids and Gary Engle of Ottumwa for the third straight year.
The IGA Four-Ball Championship is open to male amateur golfers who are members of the IGA. Golfers must also participate in the IGA Partners Program at the Player level or higher. Both team members must have reached the age of 50 by the start of the championship to compete in the Senior Division.
