Strong Final Round Propels Herrera to Fort Dodge Title
A strong final round 3-under par 68 gave Iowa State golfer Ben Herrera a one stroke win at the 2009 Fort Dodge Amateur. He finished the 54-hole event at 2-under 211. The Waukee native started the final round 9 shots back of leader Kevin Ault, who had shot an opening 36-hole 66-69 but faded with a final round 78 to finish 4th. Bill Manske of Algona and Jeff Panek of Urbandale tied for second at 1-under 212.
Tom Schill of Gowrie captured the Senior Division title with a three round total of 8-over 221. He was four shots clear of three players: Tom Kesterson, Dave Sergeant and Bruce Grenier. Bob Nieman won the Super Senior Division after rounds of 78-76-76.
