Leary fires final round 67 to edge Dunn at Hunters Ridge Amateur

Iowa State golfer and Waterloo native Nathan Leary fired a final round 5-under 67 to win the 2009 Hunters Ridge Amateur by a stroke over Cedar Rapids' Nate Dunn.  Leary's stellar final round featured a 4-under 32 over the final nine holes.  Leary eagled the par-5 12th and birdied 15 and 16 against no bogeys to catch Dunn.

Dunn, whose opening round 68 shared the lead with third-place finisher Brad George, birdied the first two holes of the final round and held a two shot lead thru 12.  After a bogey at the 13th by Dunn and Leary's birdie at 15 the two were tied at 6-under.  Then both players made a deuce on the par-3 16th to remain tied with two holes to play.  Dunn, however, would go on to bogey the 17th while Leary would par, giving him the eventual margin of victory.

Dan Dalziel, of Burlington, shot a two-round total of 1-under 143 to win the Senior Division by two strokes over Jim Butler of Fort Madison.  Todd Hingtgen of Marion finished third.  Dalziel's even-par final round of 72 was steady, as he managed two birdies against just two bogeys.
