Three advance to U.S. Amateur, including Iowan McCoy

 

Iowa State Golfer Nathan McCoy

 

Three players advanced out of sectional qualifying Monday to play in the United States Amateur Championship at Southern Hills CC in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  Jonathan Fly of Memphis, TN, Ryan Marks of Warrensburg, MO and Nathan McCoy of West Des Moines were the players who claimed the three available spots. 

 

University of Auburn golfer Fly was the medalist after carding rounds of 71-67-138 over the par-72 Des Moines Golf & CC's South course.  Marks was second at 144 while McCoy was third at 145.  Justin Schulte of Waukee finished at 146 and took 1st Alternate honors while Nathan's father Mike won 2nd Alternate in a playoff after he, Josh Manske of Algona and John Anderson of St Louis, MO all finished at 147.

 

This will be the first USGA Championship for Nathan McCoy, his dad is a veteran of over 20 such national championships, including 11 U.S. Amateurs.
