Kiawah Island, S.C. - West Des Moines resident Mike McCoy
was defeated on Wednesday morning in the round of 16 at the U.S.
Mid-Amateur Championship at Kiawah Island. Even though
McCoy fired a stroke play score of three-under thru 17 holes, he
was defeated 2&1 by Todd Burgan of Knoxville, TN.
McCoy, who shared medalist
honors with Nathan Smith of Pennsylvania and was the #1 seed,
defeated Robert Crockett of Louisville, KY 4&3 in the first
round. He then dispatched of former Major League All-Star
pitcher Erik Hanson of Kirkland, WA 7&5.

Kiawah Island, S.C. – Nathan Smith,
31, of Pittsburgh, Pa., the 2003 champion, and two-time
semifinalist Mike McCoy, 46, of West Des Moines, Iowa, shared
medalist honors Sunday with 36-hole stroke play scores of
3-under-par 140 at the 2009 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship at The
Kiawah Island Club.
