Jon Brown Advances to U.S. Amateur Public Links
Fresh off his record 7th victory in the Des Moines Men's City Championship, Jon Brown fired a two-round total of 1-under 143 to capture the lone qualifying spot into the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship on Monday. The qualifier, a 36-hole marathon in heat indexes that rose into triple digits, was held at The Harvester Golf Club in Rhodes.
Brown will move on to the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Oklahoma to join fellow Iowan and defending champion Jack Newman. Newman won the US APL last year and is exempt from qualifying.
Brown, of Urbandale, has had a series of near misses at USGA Qualifers and this is the first individual USGA Championship the 2-time Iowa Player of the Year has qualified for since the 1992 Public Links.
