2012 IGA Host Sites Announced
Iowa Amateur returns to Spirit Hollow, Echo Valley hosts first IGA championship

With the 2011 golf season behind us, the IGA is very excited to unveil the host sites for the 2012 season. The 2012 group features mostly repeat venues with one notable first-timer.
The Iowa Amateur Championship returns to Spirit Hollow Golf Club in Burlington. Spirit Hollow last hosted the Iowa Amateur in 2002 and the 2012 edition will be played over the weekend, Friday thru Sunday, July 27-29. Spirit Hollow has been host to numerous IGA Championships and USGA Qualifiers since its opening in 2000, most recently the 2011 IGA Match Play won by Jon Olson. In 2011 it was named the 6th best course in Iowa by Golf Digest. Two qualifying sites will be held for the Iowa Amateur, one at Ames Golf and Country Club and one at Hunters Ridge Golf Course in Marion.
The IGA continues its strong relationship with Sunnyside Country Club in Waterloo as it will be the site for the IGA Match Play. The club previously held the Match Play in 1986, two Iowa Amateurs (1986, 2009) and many other IGA Championships and USGA Qualifiers. The par-72 layout designed by Edward Packard was named 2006 18-hole course of the year by the IGA. It opened for play in 1970.
Mason City Country Club will be host to the 34th playing of the Iowa Senior Amateur Championship. The club has proved to be a great fit for the Senior Amateur having hosted five previous times, most recently in 2006 which featured a chip-in by Sam Aossey on the final hole of regulation to win.
Echo Valley Country Club in Des Moines will host an IGA Championship for the first time since its inception in 1969. The 7th IGA Club Team will be played over 18 of the club’s 27 holes in early October (final rotation has yet to be determined). The Club Team has grown in popularity virtually every year, reaching its entry capacity of 32 teams for the first time in 2011.
The remaining IGA schedule features the Iowa Mid-Amateur at Lake Panorama in Panora, the IGA Four-Ball at Bos Landen in Pella, Jester Park in Granger will once again host the Father-Son/Parent-Child Championship, Centennial Oaks in Waverly will be the site of the Iowa Junior Amateur and Stone Creek GC in Williamsburg will host the IGA Senior Shootout once again.
Davenport Country Club and Finkbine Golf Course lead the list of sites for USGA Qualifying in 2012. Davenport CC will host U.S. Open Local qualifying while Finkbine will be the site for sectional qualifying for the U.S. Amateur. Davenport previously hosted an Open Local in 2007 and it is believed to be the first time Finkbine has hosted qualifying for the U.S. Amateur. Other hosts for USGA qualifying include Waverly Golf Club (Women’s APL), Otter Creek GC in Ankeny (Amateur Public Links), Coldwater Golf Links in Ames (U.S. Junior) and Ames Golf & CC (U.S. Mid-Am).
