Grinnell Native Ousted in Quarterfinals

Grinnell native Jennie Arseneault was defeated on the 19th hole of her quarterfinal match by Lindy Duncan of Plantation, FL at the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship that was contested at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in North Plains, Oregon.  Arseneault won her third round match 2 up over Carlota Giganda of Spain.  This was the first match where Jennie did not have to go to extra holes to pull off the victory.  She won her first two matches with a par on the 19th hole.  The University of Virginia golfer recently made headlines by winning her third straight Iowa Women's Amateur Championship.

Fellow Iowans Christi Athas, Eldora and Jill Marcum, Clarinda, unfortunately did not advance to the match play portion of competition.  Athas shot rounds of 86-78 leaving her in a tie for 138.  Marcum shot an opening round 76 but followed that up with a second round 81 leaving her tied for 96th place.
