Peters Named Honorable Mention

Gene Elliott and Mike McCoy, both of West Des Moines, were recently named to the Amateur Golf Report’s Mid-Amateur All-American First Team for the 2006 season.  Both golfers enjoyed strong seasons including a quarterfinal berth for Elliott and final 16 showing for McCoy at the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship in September. 

The two Iowa All-American’s recently participated in a special practice session for potential 2007 Walker Cup players at Old Memorial GC on January 2-4 in Tampa, Florida.  The two Iowans were among 24 of the nation’s top amateurs who hope to be named to the 10 member U.S. team that will compete against Great Britain and Ireland at the Walker Cup in September.

Elliott was the IGA Player of the Year in 2002.  McCoy is a six-time IGA Player of the Year, most recently in 2005.  Both are members of Glen Oaks Country Club in West Des Moines. 

John Peters of Muscatine was named to the AGR Senior Amateur Honorable Mention squad.  Peters was the IGA Senior Player of the Year in 2004, 2005 Iowa Match Play Champion and is currently tied for 24^th on Golfweek/Titleist Senior Amateur Rankings.
