Des Moines Golf, Kalona CC Come Out on Top At IGA Club Team

Defending Champs Finish Close Second

The team from Des Moines Golf and Country Club won the Gross Division of the 2nd IGA Club Team Championship held at Hyperion Field Club on Monday.  In the format where three out of four 18-hold scores count, the team of (from left in the photo) Brian Verduyn, J.D. Anderson, Josh Janeczko and Ron Peterson combined to shoot a 1-under 215.  That actually tied them with the defending champion team from Hunters Ridge GC in Marion but the tie-breaker was the score of the fourth golfer. Janeczko's 74 trumped the 80 shot by George Gartelos of Hunters Ridge.

Nate Dunn of Hunters Ridge was the medalist at the event after firing a 4-under 68.  Scott Briggs of the Spirit Hollow team shot a 70 while three golfers, Verduyn and Peterson of DMG and Mike Sawyer of Hunters Ridge, shot 71.

In the Net competition, the team from Kalona CC came out on top.  For the Net portion a team counts the best three of four scores on each hole, including any handicap strokes that are allocated.  The Kalona team of Jim Hauth, Matt Berg, Aaron Rath and Tracy McArtor fashioned a 10-under 206 for the win.

The IGA had a total of 20 teams from all over the state enter the event, including teams from Spirit Hollow in Burlington, Dyersville G&CC, Landsmeer GC in Orange City and Bent Tree GC in Council Bluffs.  All corners of the state were truly represented!  The Club Team was held for the first time last year at Coldwater Golf Links in Ames with 9 teams competing.
