IGA Announces Changes to Sanctioned Point Events
Hunters Ridge Amateur on 2007 Points Schedule, GCRO no longer on list

March 19, 2007

The Greater Cedar Rapids Open (GCRO) which is played each year in late July will no longer be an Iowa Golf Association (IGA) player of the year point event and the new Hunters Ridge Amateur to be played in May will become a point event in 2007 for both open and senior divisions.

Mark Davis, the golf professional at Hunters Ridge Golf Course, informed the IGA in a February 22nd letter that the GCRO board of directors “Has changed the format of the GRCO tournament for 2007, and this will limit the number of amateurs in the field”.

“We cannot guarantee a specific number of amateurs into the GCRO field and understand that this change does not allow our event to be considered a major point event for amateur golfers,” Davis concluded.

The inaugural Hunters Ridge Amateur will be played on Saturday, May 12th and Sunday, May 13th.  It will be a 36-hole stroke play competition for all amateurs and will have both open and senior divisions.

In accepting the proposal for the Hunters Ridge Amateur to become a point event, IGA Rules and Competitions Committee Chairman, Ron Peterson stated that “Hunters Ridge has been an excellent member club of the IGA and very supportive over the years.  The committee recognized the importance of maintaining a point event presence in the Cedar Rapids area and the consensus was to make the Hunters Ridge Amateur a point event beginning in 2007.”

Information and entry details will be available in the very near future on the IGA’s website at www.iowagolf.org.  (Under the “Rules and Competitions” tab click on “Sanctioned Point Events”.)  Those interested in competing in this event may also contact the Hunters Ridge pro shop at (319) 377-3500.
