| Waterloo Open is back on IGA Points List |
| Irv Warren is Host Course; Joins IGA May 1, 2007 The Iowa Golf Association’s Board of Directors has reinstated the Waterloo Open as an IGA Player of the Year sanctioned point event effective for 2007.
The Waterloo Open was discontinued as a point event in 2006 because none of the courses hosting the event were IGA Regular Member Clubs. The IGA Board of Directors adopted policy effective for 2007 that stipulated that "... for tournaments conducted at multiple courses... one course must be designated as the Host Course. That Host Course must be an IGA Member Club and exclusively use the “Individual Golfer Services” provided by the IGA, including, but not limited to, handicap computation services.”
“The IGA is pleased to have Irv Warren Memorial Golf Course as a member club”,” said IGA Executive Director Bill Dickens. “The Waterloo Open now meets the criteria established by the Board of Directors and the Rules and Competitions Committee to be a point event.”
“We feel there is a significant mutual benefit to our members and to the Waterloo Open to maintain this traditional point event presence in eastern Iowa,” said Rules and Competitions Committee Chair Ron Peterson. “For the IGA this was always simply an issue of membership and the benefits that come with membership. We couldn’t be more pleased to have the Waterloo Open back on the points list,” Peterson said.
The amateur competition for the 2007 Waterloo Open will be played July 20-22 at the three Waterloo Municipal courses. Complete information can be found at the tournament’s website at www.waterloojaycees.org/open.
The Iowa Golf Association conducts nine state championships and administers Player of the Year competitions for Men, Senior Men and Junior Boys. In addition to IGA Championships, points can be earned at thirteen sanctioned point events played throughout Iowa, as well as USGA Championships and other national competitions.
