Point Total is determined by:
- Total points in IGA and USGA conducted championships and qualifiers plus…
- best three point totals from sanctioned point events
Points for 2014 will accumulate through October 2, 2014.
Player must be an Iowa resident and be a member of the IGA (enrolled on GHIN Handicap Roster at an IGA Member Club) to be eligible.
In tournaments with professional fields (Herman Sani, Iowa Open, etc) points will be awarded according to finish against the amateur portion of the field. 200 Bonus Points (400 total) will be awarded to an amateur that wins the Iowa Open.
Points will not be awarded to amateur players who are not Iowa residents and IGA members. Positions will not be elevated in order to award those points. For example: 3rd place points will be awarded the 3rd place finisher even if the 1st and 2nd place finishers are not IGA members.
USGA points are awarded based on final finish. For example, a player who is a quarter-finalist in the US Amateur will receive a total of 600 points, not 225+250+350+475+600.
Qualifying points will not be awarded to exempt players for USGA or any other championship. However, players can earn points for their appropriate finish once at the championship.
- For example, a player is exempt from qualifying for the U.S. Amateur
- If he does not make match play he will receive 0 points
- If he makes match play he will receive 225 points
It is the policy of the Iowa Golf Association that at least 12 individuals must begin a tournament in a division to constitute awarding points for player of the year races that are applicable to such division. If 12 or less begin play in the division, no points will be available.
For example: When 11 people or less begin play in the Senior Division of the Carroll Amateur, no points will be awarded for the Senior Player of the Year race.
