Herman Sani Golf Tournament
The Tournament
As one of the most prestigious tournaments on the Iowa Golf Association schedule, held at Hyperion Field Club, The Herman Sani Invitational is a showcase for some of the best golf by Iowa professionals and top amateurs. Running continuously since 1950 (except for 1998, thanks to Mother Nature), the 54-hole tournament begins with a qualifying round on Friday or Saturday and finishes with morning and afternoon rounds on Sunday.
Many notable professionals have competed and won The Sani over the years. Two-time Sani champion Lon Nielsen (1976; 1982) is currently playing on the Seniors Champions Tour. 2000 Sani winner Zach Johnson is currently on the PGA tour. Zach represented the U.S. in the 2006 and 2010 Ryder Cup Matches and won the 2007 Masters Tournament.
Volunteering
It takes a lot of volunteer help to make the Sani tournament a success. Approximately 75 people are needed as marshals, starters, scorers and announcers. Staffed mostly by Hyperion members and their families, this is an opportunity to watch and experience some great golf while helping to keep the tradition of The Sani as one of Iowa’s premier golf tournaments.
