Changes made for 2012 IGA Championships
Senior Division in Mid-Amateur returns; Cart fee included in Club Team
At the annual meeting held last November, the IGA Board of Directors approved the reinstitution of a Senior Division at the Iowa Mid-Amateur Championship. The IGA removed the division for three years, beginning in 2009.
While the removal of the Senior Division resulted in decreased entries into the Mid-Am, the decision to bring it back was not strictly to fill the field. Senior golfers are some of the most loyal supporters of the IGA and it was clear many of them wanted to play in the event, but only if they were competing against others 50 and older. The Rules and Competitions Committee and Board felt it important to grant those requests.
In addition, the IGA will not administer a Women’s Division in the Iowa Mid-Amateur in 2012. It was clear that a re-evaluation was needed when only a handful of players entered in 2010 and 2011. The association is committed to providing playing opportunities for its female members and will work to better serve that goal throughout 2012.
Carts will be included in the entry fee for the IGA Club Team Championship. The 2012 event is being played at Echo Valley CC in Des Moines and the entry for each team of four will be $320. Previously players who wished to take carts had to pay the cart fee themselves the morning of the event. This change is appropriate at an event where history has shown that most players ride. It also will make the burden on the host course staff much lighter on the day of the championship.
Entries to the Iowa Mid-Amateur, IGA Four-Ball and Iowa Junior Amateur will open on Wednesday, February 15th while entries to all other IGA Championships, Member Play Days and IGA Members Net Tour will open on Thursday, March 1st.
