Herrera's Birdie-Birdie Finish Earns Iowa Masters Title
Algona's Bill Manske Takes Senior Title in Playoff

Iowa State golfer Ben Herrera fired a final round 69 to erase a four stroke deficit and capture the 71st Iowa Masters.  Herrera and Mike Oimoen were tied for the lead thru 16.  Eric Anfinson, the leader by four heading into the final round, was two back.

Then all three birdied the 17th.  Oimoen and Anfinson both nailed long putts while Herrera waited to stroke his 5-footer to keep pace with Oimoen heading to the last.

After both hit good tee shots on the par-5 final hole, Oimoen's 3-wood second sailed a bit right.  He misjudged his third and it trickled by the back hole location and into the rough.  Herrera, who was just short of the green in two, chipped up and left an 8-footer for birdie.  When Oimoen's chip ran well past the hole again, he missed his par putt giving Herrera the comfort of knowing that two putts would win the title, but he only took one sinking his birdie and securing the two-shot victory.  Oimoen finished with a final round 71 while Anfinson carded a 76.

In the Senior Division, Bill Manske outlasted Rob Christensen in a playoff after both finished at 1-under par 215 after 54 holes.  Manske birdied the par-5 9th hole, their final hole of regulation, to earn his spot in the playoff.
