McCoy, Elliott Compete at Northeast Amateur

Gene Elliott got off to a great start today in the 3rd round of the Northeast Amateur, held at Wannamoisett Country Club in Rumford, Rhode Island. The West Des Moines resident was 3-under par through 12 holes but bogeys at 13 and 15 and a double-bogey on 18 left him at 1-over par 70 for the day. Elliott has a three round total of 4-over 211.

Mike McCoy has been consistent in his three rounds out east. After carding a 72 in round one and a 71 in round two, McCoy put together another 72 in the third round. After struggling at the start (5-over on his first nine holes) McCoy put together a solid back nine 33 to finish with a three round total of 8-over 215.

The list of past champions of the Northeast Amateur is quite impressive counting PGA Tour stars David Duval, Luke Donald, Ben Crenshaw, Scott Hoch, John Cook, Hal Sutton, Jay Sigel, Brett Quigley, Allen Doyle, Notah Begay III, Jonathan Byrd, and Anthony Kim as names on the trophy.
