IGA Offers FREE Rules of Golf Seminars

Two Seminars Open to the Public will focus on Rules Changes that took effect in 2008

As the calendar turns to a new year, 2008 brings about a revised Rules of Golf book set by the United States Golf Association and Royal & Ancient, St. Andrews.

Notable changes to Rules 12-2 and 15-3, which have been under consideration for several years, are among the amendments to the Rules of Golf agreed upon by the United States Golf Association and R&A Rules Limited that have been in effect since January 1, 2008. Golfers are now allowed to lift a ball for identification in a bunker or water hazard. However, there is now a two-stroke penalty for playing a wrong ball from a hazard. In match play, the penalty is loss of hole.

Although snow is still flying here in Iowa the season is not far away! Soon, much of our free time will be spent on the links and so it makes sense to start the season by brushing up on our Rules knowledge. Therefore, the IGA is pleased to once again be conducting FREE Rules of Golf seminars for all who wish to attend. Take advantage of this educational opportunity and save yourself some strokes on the golf course this year!

All golfers who would like to know more about the Rules of Golf are welcome to attend. High School golf coaches and players are specifically urged to attend. Each High School golfer who attends and has never been a member of the USGA will receive a FREE Junior Membership from the United States Golf Association!

Everyone who attends will receive a FREE 2008-2009 Rules of Golf book. Both seminars will begin at 9:00 a.m. and run approximately 2 ½ hours.

Please register for the seminar you wish to attend at least two days in advance. This will help us to determine the amount of materials needed.
