Clinton Country Club to move to Valley Oaks site
Big changes have occurred in Clinton this winter. On December 12, 2009 it was announced that Ashford University was buying the property that has been the Clinton Country Club for the past 90 years, for the purpose of "future campus expansion of its growing academic institution."
Six days later the Clinton Herold reported that "The Clinton Country Club Board of Directors announced Friday that the country club has entered in a contract to purchase the Valley Oaks golf facilities. The Clinton Country Club intends to relocate to the Valley Oaks location under the new name, the "Clinton Country Club at the Oaks." Valley Oaks is on Harts Mill Road approximately 3 miles west of the former Clinton Country Club location.
Clinton Country Club Head Golf Professional Matt Lewis told the IGA in a recent phone conversation that the annual Riverboat Days Amateur golf tournament, which is a sanctioned point event for the IGA's Player of the Year point race, will be continued on the same June dates that it has been played in the past.
"The Riverboat Days Amateur has been an IGA sanctioned event for 25 years and we are very pleased that it will remain as a mainstay event in Eastern Iowa for our player of the year competition", said IGA Executive Director Bill Dickens.
The Riverboat Days Amateur is a 54-hole tournament and features both Open and Senior Division competition. It is scheduled for June 18-20, 2010 and entry forms should be available on the IGA website sometime in March or early April.
